A human chain put an end to any overflow in the center of Brussels after the victory of Morocco
Around 7:30 p.m., the tension began to rise a notch in the city center on Boulevard Lemonier. If the feeling of jubilation was present, some people resorted excessively to firecrackers, smoke bombs and sparklers. The police therefore went to the scene in combat gear with dogs and two water cannons, ready to act if overflows were observed. About fifty young people began to warm up, and to avoid any new altercation, a human chain was created. In fact, fifty meters from the police line, dozens of men joined hands and blocked the way to the youngest, trying to reason with them. “Celebrate as much as you want. Dance, sing, but stay calm. Don’t fight. Don’t destroy,” they urged sternly.
The police nevertheless had to intervene less and calm quickly returned to the city center. Our colleagues from Laatste Nieuws explain that the older ones set an example for the younger ones by starting to dance and sing, so the latter followed suit. A great collective awareness.
