Abuse at the CHSLD Floralies in Lasalle: a family wants to move a loved one as soon as possible

The family of a resident of a Montreal CHSLD under investigation for possible abuse is asking that their loved one be moved quickly, denouncing serious shortcomings in care for months.

“We just want dignity, it no longer makes sense,” rages Brigitte Lavoie, whose sister Sophie, who has an intellectual disability, has been staying at the Floralies residence in Lasalle for almost two years.

Complaint, meetings with staff and social workers, supporting photos, but nothing changes, gets angry Ms. Lavoie.

When she visits her sister, she finds stools in her bed or her diaper is soiled. Her sister wears clothes that are not hers, she says. She also found her feet black, they were so dirty.

But the worst is a bed sore on her buttocks that has not healed for over a year, denounces Ms. Lavoie.

Ongoing investigation

Last week, TVA Nouvelles revealed the opening of an investigation into the Floralies residences in LaSalle and Lachine.

“The CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal would like to inform you of an upgrade to its monitoring […] This increased surveillance specifically affects the quality and safety of health care offered to seniors who reside there,” according to a letter sent to relatives.

“Over the past few months, evaluation visits have raised a number of concerns related to the compliance of care and services provided to clients,” the letter continues.

Admissions by the CIUSSS are also suspended and a report is expected in October.

According to Ms. Lavoie, her sister should be in an intermediate resource, a living environment for people with loss of autonomy, but in view of the wait, a place was assigned to her in this private residence by the CIUSSS.

The owner of the premises did not call Le Journal back yesterday.

“My sister will never complain,” breathes Ms. Lavoie, who is fighting for her to get better care. She is sorry that the staff do not check her wounds or her diaper more, for example.

She bursts into tears thinking about what her sister, about to turn 50, is going through.
