Brussels: Solvay will leave its headquarters in Neder-over-Heembeek

The Solvay company, which celebrates its 160th anniversary this year, has decided to leave its Neder-over-Heembeek (NOH) site, RTBF has learned. No moving outside the Brussels region but to Haren, close to NATO.

Solvay has decided to acquire the Deltatech facilities on rue de la Fusée. In a written communication addressed to the staff, the management indicates that this is a decision of an economic and practical order: “The installation investment is less than one-fifth of what it would take to modernize Solvay Campus, and subsequent operating costs will be one-third that of Neder-over-Heembeek“. The NOH site covers a total area of 23 hectares.

The new Haren site is announced to be larger, with modular spaces, meeting the highest environmental standards. Deltatech also benefits from a “excellent sound insulation“. This offers staff facilities such as sports equipment and a crèche. “The future Solvay website is equipped with large research areas, a structure digital to carry out and enjoys great accessibility, making it possible to offer its employees and workplace at height of the quality requirements and modernity of group, especially in terms of innovation and collaboration“, says the management again.

The pandemic has also prompted Solvay to review its internal organization. In January 2021, the Belgian company announced the elimination of 100 jobs out of the 900 at the Neder-over-Heembeek site. To this must be added the development of telework.

This is an exceptional opportunity“, adds the management, “not only because it provides a turnkey solution to many of the challenges faced by the NOH site, but also because this relocation project is compatible with Solvay’s ambitions“.

The move is scheduled between April 2023 and March 2024.

What will become of the headquarters of Neder-over-Heembeek after this date? What reassignment to consider? “We are the owners of the site, the reflection has not yet been launched“, tells us a Solvay spokesperson.

This Tuesday morning, the management will detail the terms of the move during a staff meeting.
