In 2021 and 2022, the circus failed in the Principality, deprived of its annual festival due to the health crisis. Since this Friday, January 20, young and old Monegasques are happy to be able to go to the marquee of Fontvieille, where the 45th edition of the International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo is taking place.

Prince Albert II did the honor of attending the first performance on Friday, surrounded by his sister Princess Stéphanie, president of the festival, his nephew Louis Ducruet and his niece Camille Gottlieb. Louis and Camille made the pleasure of accompanying their mother who could not hide her happiness. Princess Stéphanie, who will turn 58 in about ten days, is the heiress of her father’s circus passion and has closely followed the organization of this long-awaited 45th festival.

This Sunday, the sovereign prince should return to the circus, this time accompanied by hereditary prince Jacques and princess Gabriella. The circus is now part of the DNA of the Principality, since the creation of the festival in 1974 by Prince Rainier III. Next year, the festival will celebrate its 50th anniversary and a special edition is already in preparation. It will honor its founder. “Without him, we wouldn’t be here! »recalled Princess Stéphanie two days ago at the microphone of Monaco Info. Princess Stephanie promises a grand edition because many circus families will want to be part of it to pay tribute to the late sovereign. “There will be families who believed in my dad’s project in 1974”assures Princess Stephanie.

Princess Stéphanie, who is president of the festival but also honorary president of the World Circus Federation, has herself already transmitted this passion to her children. His eldest daughter, Pauline Ducruet is involved in the creation of New Generation. She is also President of the International Jury. The Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival is also a competition. The artists represent their country and a jury awards Gold Clowns at the end of the festival.
