“Close” leaves empty-handed but “super happy”: the main winners of the Golden Globes

The 80th Golden Globes ceremony rewarded the best films and series on Tuesday evening near Los Angeles.

Lhe semi-autobiographical film by Steven Spielberg The Fabelmans won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Picture on Tuesday.

This intimate feature film is largely inspired by the childhood of the filmmaker, who also received the prize for best director. He portrays a young American Jew who dreams of making films in the 1960s, while his parents watch their couple inexorably fall apart.

For its part, the Irish tragicomedy The Banshees of Inisherindirected by Martin McDonagh, won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy.

Set on an imaginary Irish island, the feature film tells the abrupt end of a friendship between two local pub regulars, played by Colin Farrell, crowned best actor in a comedy earlier in the evening, and Brendan Gleeson.

The feature film To close by Belgian director Lukas Dhont did not win a Golden Globe. The prize for best foreign language film went to Argentina, 1985.

Selected with 14 other films, To close will be eligible for the Oscar for international feature film, provided that it is selected from the list of five nominees which will be announced on January 24th.
