LFormer MEP Pier Antonio Panzeri, in confession of corruption in connection with Qatar and Morocco, completely exonerates the Belgian MEP Marie Arena, whose name was cited by the press in the investigation around the European Parliament, has indicated the lawyer of the repentant, Me Laurent Kennes, Tuesday evening on the RTBF.

“What Mr. Panzeri made a point of saying, and that he wanted to express in relation to this lady to whom he was very close, is that he was particularly sorry. He knows that he has betrayed people, betrayed the trust of certain people, and Marie Arena is one of them since he believes that he is someone who is extremely upright and who should not have been accused like that. is the case here,” Kennes said.

“He will mention her name to say that she has nothing to do and that he would never have dared to propose anything to her,” he added.

Pier Antonio Panzeri signed an agreement with the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office on Tuesday to become “repentant”, a status which means his recognition of guilt while guaranteeing him a reduced sentence (one year in prison on a 5-year sentence, in addition to fines and confiscations for more than one million euros). He acknowledges his participation in acts of corruption and having been one of the leaders of the criminal organization targeted, and undertakes to detail all the information he knows on the file, according to the lawyer.

As for the other PS MEP Marc Tarabella, whose Belgian justice demands the lifting of parliamentary immunity, and who would be accused by Mr. Panzeri of having been corrupt (which Mr. Tarabella refutes), the lawyer does not did not want to comment. “We do not communicate information on the file which is under investigation, it is part of the agreement. But it is sad that information is leaking from the file, evoking the names of people who have not even had the opportunity to be heard yet (…) and do not have access to the elements of the file”, commented Mr. Kennes.
