Energy: up to 260 euros difference per year for the same contract concluded one month apart
By Guillaume Declaye
Qhen you look at the different energy contracts on the market, it’s hard not to get lost. No more fixed contracts, still understandable for ordinary people, now make way for a wide range of variable contracts indexed according to sometimes obscure mathematical formulas. At the end of March 2023, only one in five consumers will still benefit from a fixed contract, predicts the federal regulator (the Creg).
In these nebulous formulas, written in “fly” at the bottom of each contract, two major types of parameters come into play.
On one side, the indexing parameter. It is chosen by the supplier to be able to adapt your tariff monthly (or quarterly) according to the evolution of market prices. This is the only element of the invoice which varies automatically, based on the evolution of the price of MWh on the stock exchange.
