Fortnite Is Sued By His Parents For Being Too Addictive

A lawsuit has been filed against the developers of Fortnite by Quebec parents claiming the game has made their children and many other children addicted as children refuse to eat or shower to spend more time with the game.

A Supreme Court of Canada judge has allowed a lawsuit to be filed against Epic Games that accuses the company’s product of being illegally addictive to make children neglect their daily tasks in order to buy more time to play the game.

According to Bbc, the judge, namely Judge Sylvain Lussier, was approached by three parents who informed her that their children had stopped eating, sleeping and showering in light of their addiction to Fortnite. “The court concludes that there is a serious question to be argued, supported by sufficient and specific allegations as to the existence of risks or even dangers arising from the use of Fortnite”, ruled the judge.

Shortly after, the parent’s legal advisor compared Fortnite to Tobacco. They claimed that their lawsuit against Epic Games was largely based on the “tobacco motion”. “Our motion was heavily inspired by the tobacco motion only in terms of what we allege,” attorney Alessandra Esposito Chartrand said, according to the Global News report.

At the conclusion of the last hearing, the court found that Fortnite could not be equated with tobacco. The judge found no compelling evidence to suggest that the developers deliberately developed an addictive game, but added that Epic Games was aware of the addictive nature.

“The court finds that there is no evidence for these allegations of deliberately creating an addictive game,” the judge wrote. “This does not exclude the possibility that the game is in fact addictive and that its designer and distributor are presumed to know about it.”
