Some car manufacturers offer self-parking systems, but they usually require a lot of space. When you have to slip into a cramped place, however, there is currently no other solution than to maneuver yourself, possibly with the help of radars and other cameras.

But Hyundai may have found the perfect parking solution. Its Mobis division is unveiling a prototype electric SUV Ioniq5 equipped with very special articulated wheels, capable of rotating 90 degrees. The idea of this “e-Corner” device? Allowing the car to literally move sideways, which would make parking as simple as possible without having to maneuver for a long time to get into a space.

Direct U-turn

In addition to the 90-degree position, Hyundai’s technology also allows the vehicle to make a U-turn almost on itself. The potential of such systems for city traffic in complicated alleys is limitless but for now it is only an experimental technology. It also remains to consider the cost and complexity of such equipment, which must also increase the weight of the car. Hyundai had already equipped several concept cars with this technology in the past, but this is the first time that it has been found on a production model. For the moment, it is not known if Hyundai plans to market this e-Corner system on its cars in the future.
