“It’s frustrating, they don’t really pay much attention”
The British couple expected to receive a large bill. A higher amount than usual due to the increased cost of energy. But on receiving their statement of account from British Gas, it was a shock. Kate confesses that she and her husband never stopped heating their Hampshire home. From there to receiving an invoice of more than 100,000 euros in one month…
“I was shocked, I was already holding my breath,” says the forties to the Sun. Upon discovering this six-figure amount (£117,000 – 135,000 euros), Kate immediately took out her phone to call British Gas. “I told the employee directly that I didn’t think my bill was £117,000. He replied ‘Oh no’”.
An “accidental” error which was quickly resolved but which leaves a bitter taste for Kate and Michael. “My husband was quite shocked that such a large company could let this kind of thing happen…” They are surprised that the high sum requested did not alert the company. “It’s a little frustrating, they don’t really pay much attention. And people are already stressed about getting their bills…”
British Gas responded by saying it was “sorry about the bill” from Kate and had taken steps to resolve the issue by providing a revised bill.
