Liver detox after the holidays: is it really necessary?
Should you do a liver detox after the holidays? What about these fashionable purges? What are the symptoms of a tired liver? Information with Dr. Charlotte, referring doctor on the program “La Grande Forme”.
After this period relatively loaded in terms of meals, saturated fatty acids and possibly alcohol, you are probably tempted to do a short week of detox. Of course, it’s not a bad idea to lighten meals, but is it really useful? The point with Dr Charlotte, general practitioner.
Role of the liver
The liver is a gland that has many vital functions, especially nutrient processing, digestion, lipid metabolism, and detoxification function. Our excessively rich daily diet, the medications we take, pollution and daily stress tend to burden this organ.
Some authors state that the liver does not store toxins; it’s a sewage treatment plant. Others – based on a study published in 2015 in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics – states that chronic exposures to chemicals would tend to accumulate in the form of toxins in the liver. However, these studies are essentially based on animal experiments. There is therefore a lack of scientific studies on this subject.
