To anyone who takes advantage of a friend or family member’s Netlfix account, by sharing the password, know that it’s almost over. For years, the platform has missed many subscriptions because of this password sharing. Since 2019, the company has been trying somehow to fight.

According to the wall street journalthat’s nearly 100 million people who slip through the cracks in this way, taking advantage of someone else’s password, reports Allocinated. To cope, the streaming giant will now check IP addresses and account activities to ensure that the use of the platform is compliant or not.

Netflix will ask people who use someone else’s passwords to pay extra. Already, this method has been applied in Latin America. Free riders will need to enter a verification code which will be sent to the person who owns the account. The code must be entered within 15 minutes or you will be charged extra. A priori, the technique works since people prefer to pay.
