New Year’s Eve: traffic will be changed in Brussels

The organization of traffic will be modified in Brussels on Saturday, said Thursday the Police Zone of Brussels Capital Ixelles in a press release. The traditional fireworks display planned for New Year’s Eve is no stranger to this.

This year, it will be fired from the Place des Palais at midnight. The site will be open to the public from 11:00 p.m. Four areas will be reserved for spectators: Place des Palais, Place du Trône, Parc de Bruxelles and Rue Ducale. They will be accessible on foot. A fifth zone will be intended for Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM). It is located on the Court of Arbitration (corner rue Ducale/place des Palais, on the Palais Royal side).

Several streets will be closed to motorized vehicles. From 2 p.m., Place des Palais. From 8 p.m., rue Ducale (between rue de la Loi and boulevard du Régent). From 9 p.m., rue Royale (between rue de la Loi and place Royale), boulevard du Régent (between rue Lambermont and rue Ducale) and rue de la Pépinière (between rue du Namur and place du Trône) .

Finally, avenue des Arts (between rue du Luxembourg and rue Belliard) as well as rue Montoyer (between rue du Commerce and avenue des Arts) will be closed from 11 p.m. The entire STIB network will be free for passengers from midnight until service resumes on 1 January. The metro and tram lines are extended until 2:15 a.m., and the Noctis bus lines will run from midnight to 5:00 a.m.

To get to Place des Palais by public transport, take lines 1 and 5 (get off at Gare Centrale or Arts-Loi) or 2 and 6 (get off at Porte de Namur or Arts-Loi) of the metro. For security reasons, Parc station will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Trône station from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Bicycle racks will be installed on Place Royale and on Boulevard du Régent (between Porte de Namur and Place du Trône). However, no car parking will be provided by the organizer. The Brussels police point out that citizens will not be allowed to take fireworks, bottles or any other glass object, cans or any bag or luggage. In addition, she advises to come early enough and to leave pets at home.
