Purser, Felipe can no longer take Ryanair’s attitude towards its staff: the unions issue an ultimatum

Ryanair cabin crew decided on Saturday morning to suspend the strike movement which occasionally affects the company’s activities at Charleroi airport. The decision was taken at a general meeting held in Charleroi. It comes into effect from the end of the weekend until the end of January.

Time for company management to come back with a proposal“, indicated Didier Lebbe, permanent secretary of the CNE, who clarified in the process that if no agreement was reached by the end of January, the staff would then observe two days of strike per month until a solution was found. .

Some 200 staff members attended the general assembly according to the permanent secretary. During the meeting, it was notably a question of Ryanair’s lack of reaction to the expectations expressed by the staff, in particular with regard to the respect of a minimum wage, but also of the latest declarations of the management indicating the will of the group to be even more profitable. “The staff are extremely determined and are ready to toughen up the movement if necessary.“, said Didier Lebbe.

Ryanair does not understand that the Belgian indexation system is not a salary increase

Ryanair still refuses to guarantee the legal minimum wage in Belgium. “The problem is that Ryanair does not understand that the Belgian indexation system is not a salary increase. So for them, it makes no sense to negotiate. That’s the big problem. The worst is that they made the best turnover in their history: 1.4 billion euros. The only thing they gave away was bottled water in the summer“, confided to us Felipe Mairlot Del Rey, purser. Note that in reality, Ryanair announced a net profit after tax of 1.3 billion euros for the first half of 2022, the turnover for the same period was 6.6 billion.

Since the end of December, several hundred departing and arriving flights have already been canceled at Charleroi airport following the movement.
