Samsung smartphones with Exynos processor and Mali GPU threatened by security problems

Samsung smartphones with Exynos processor and Mali GPU threatened by security problemsThere is no good news for Samsung users. Millions of devices equipped with Exynos chips – to be precise, those equipped with Mali GPUs – are currently vulnerable to various risks. Among them, one can cause damage to kernel memory, another could lead to the disclosure of physical memory addresses, while three other vulnerabilities would lead to other vulnerabilities. The most disturbing aspect of this story is that the aforementioned vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to gain full system access and thereby bypass all Android permissions. These flaws, discovered by “Project Zero”, had already been brought to the attention of ARM in June and July. The company fixed these issues the following month, but as of now, no smartphone vendor has reportedly released the specific security patches.

This type of GPU can be found in Samsung, Xiaomi, and OPPO devices. Among other things, the same type of danger would also have been spotted on a Pixel 6: despite this, however, Google would not have published any update in this regard. On the other hand, Samsung smartphones with Snapdragon processors or the Galaxy S22 series would not be at risk. In fact, the devices belonging to this line have an Xclipse 920 graphics chip instead of a Mali GPU.
