VTwenty years ago, the registration fees to be paid when buying second-hand property – new properties are most often subject to 21% VAT – were transferred to the Regions during the fifth state reform.

Since then, the three Regions of the country have regularly made changes to make this tax less burdensome for households. It must be said that the tax rate before regionalization was steep: 12.5% ​​of the market value of the property.

A new wave of changes is rolling in. As in previous reforms, Flanders acted first. Brussels followed. Then, recently, Wallonia.
