“The damage extends over 500 meters”: impressive train accident in Flanders, a truck hit head-on (video)

A passenger train hit a lorry stopped at the level crossing on Tuesday shortly before 4 p.m. in Ardooie (West Flanders). The first two wagons derailed, but did not overturn, injuring several people. The damage to the railway infrastructure is enormous. “The damage extends over a distance of 500 meters. Sleepers, signal cables and the catenary, among others, were damaged. A catenary pole was also affected”specified Infrabel.

An electrical cabin that controls the level crossing was also destroyed. Technical teams are on site to repair the damage. Train traffic will probably no longer be possible in Ardooie until next weekend. This is reported by the rail network manager Infrabel.

Following the accident, Infrabel issued instructions to drivers. “There are stickers with an emergency number and all the information on each level crossing. If you ever get stuck, leave your vehicle as soon as possible and call this number. The emergency services are in direct contact with our control center which can direct rail traffic elsewhere or stop it. In this way a collision can be avoided.”
