the deminers blew up the suspicious suitcase
The Liège police received a call this Tuesday afternoon at 2:25 p.m. for the presence of a suspicious suitcase at the corner of rue Louis Jamme and Puits-en-Sock in Outremeuse in Liège, place Théodore Gobert. A security perimeter was established and the Amercoeur bridge was closed to traffic, as was rue Louis Jamme, in both directions.
Traffic from Robermont was diverted by the quays towards the Bressoux bridge, which caused major traffic jams on Tuesday throughout the afternoon. Pedestrians were also prohibited in this security perimeter.
As a precaution, the businesses at the start of rue Puits-en-Sock and rue Louis Jamme were evacuated.
The deminers, who intervened on the spot from 3.45 p.m., blew up around 4.30 p.m. using a small robot, the suspicious suitcase which was packed in a blue PMC bag attached to a post with the sign “Welcome to Outremeuse”! We do not know, at the present time, what it contained.
The security perimeter was lifted at 5:30 p.m. and traffic was restored during rush hour.
