The Bavarian firm unveils the new BMW M3 CS, with 550 horsepower. It will only be produced in 1,800 copies, including 73 for France…

Like its ancestor, the new generation of BMW 3 Series now offers a new version BMW M3CS more dynamic, located halfway between the M3 Competition and the 3.0 CSL. This new version therefore offers more power and a small slimming cure to the M3.

Bad news, however, for fans of the German brand, this more powerful BMW M3 CS (for “Competition Sport”) is now equipped with a xDrive all-wheel driveunlike the previous opus with propulsion.

BMW M3 CS: light revs

Aesthetically, the new BMW M3 CS is inspired by the recipe already introduced by the M4 CSL: more muscular, its grille is now circled in red, while the front bumper offers a new carbon blade which ostentatiously protrudes on the sides. . The set is completed by black multi-spoke wheels, 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear.

To allow to reduce its weight by about 20 kg compared to an M3 Competition M xDrive, the CS is equipped with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) on the bonnet, the air intakes or the rear spoiler, while on board, the central console and the seats seats, upholstered in black leather stitched in red, are trimmed in carbon fibre. A titanium silencer also brings a better sound to the exhaust, while allowing to save a few superfluous kilos.

BMW M3 CS: 550 horsepower under the hood

Technically, the BMW M3 CS is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine, which develops here 550 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, i.e. 40 additional horses compared to an M3 Competition, but still 10 horsepower less than the 3.0 CSL version. The 0 to 100 km/h is swallowed in 3.4 secondsfor a maximum speed of 302 km/h: for comparison, this is electronically limited to 250 km/h for the other BMW M3s.

This cavalry is sent to the four-wheel drive via an eight-speed automatic transmission, and several driving modes make it possible to manage the distribution of the torque for more dynamism. Specific engine mounts and active suspension are also present, and this one has been recalibrated to improve its behavior.

BMW M3 CS: only 73 copies!

If this new BMW M3 CS interests you, you will have to act quickly! Indeed, it will only be produced in a limited series for only one year, until February 2024, and up to 1,800 copies in the whole world. In France, only 73 units will be offered by BMW!

On the price side, it will be necessary to count an entrance ticket of €157,000excluding options, i.e. around 50,000 euros more than an M3 Competition M xDrive: a fairly dissuasive price, knowing that the model will be hit with the most severe ecological penalty, adding 50,000 euros to the final invoice… Production will begin in Munich, in Germany, from March 2023.
