the whole country placed on orange alert, the heightened vigilance phase activated in Wallonia due to slippery conditions
The heavy rainfall of the last few days and the expected drop in temperatures are likely to make the roads slippery throughout Wallonia on Monday evening and Tuesday morning. Snowfalls are also announced on the heights.
No traffic restriction measures have been taken, but the staff of the Public Service of Wallonia (SPW) are mobilized to ensure maximum user safety and maintain good traffic conditions.
The Regional Crisis Center of Wallonia, the Perex center and the traffic police recommend that users remain cautious and vigilant if they have to take the road. They invite them to anticipate risks, especially in exposed places such as bridges, and to find out about traffic conditions on the Walloon network before leaving (http://trafiroutes.wallonie.be or http://www. inforoutes.be).
An orange alert across the country
Tonight, above 400 to 500 m altitude, precipitation will fall as snow. The snow cover could reach about 5 cm, or even locally 10 cm in the Eastern Townships.
Tonight, temperatures will become negative across the country and patches of ice may form and lead to dangerously slippery roads. The Royal Institute of Meteorology therefore issues an orange alert across the country, especially in the morning.
