Thierry Bodson (FGTB): ‘There are not enough unemployed people to reach an employment rate of 80% in Belgium’

Here, Vivaldi hopes to reach an employment rate of 80% by 2030. A real challenge given the 72% national employment rate (76.8% in the Flemish Region, 65.9% in the Walloon Region and 65.8% in the Brussels-Capital Region) currently.

But is this challenge feasible? “Areach an emp rateIoi of 80% in Belgium represents 650,000 jobs”, affirms the president of the FGTB, Thierry Bodson. “Or on a 400.000 jobseekers compensated or not compensated.”

DMoreover, the employment rate displayed in Belgium and elsewhere does not correspond exactly to reality. We all agree, increasedr and employment rate vs’is good”, advance-does he. On the other hand when we parle du employment rate of 80%, he must be remembered thatand thecomparing apples and pears since you are occupied 10h or 38h/sweek counts as one unit. The OECD has made them Kolkata for Belgium and the Netherlands and where the posted employment rate is more than 75% in the Netherlands and 71% with us, when translating that in full-time equivalent or hours lends – since it is the hours worked that fuel wealth –, we have in Belgium an employment time in full-time equivalents of 61%, 60% in low countries according to the OECD. So we have more hours worked in Belgium than in the Netherlands.”
