En arriving on the platform, my first reaction was a desire to turn around”, confided a firefighter who intervened at the Maelbeek station. “But we had to move on, we’re here to do our job… On my right, there was a person’s head, with a diagonal laceration on the face; to my left, I remember a human trunk. We continued on this quay, walking on blood, on rubble. I felt like I was in a bad dream. No, not a bad dream: a nightmare. ” Such searches were difficult, especially since they had been asked to go back up while waiting for the deminers: ” But we knew that there had been children, and we said to ourselves that there were perhaps still some. , so we were looking, we were looking…”, added another firefighter.
